Topic

Help put an end to distracted driving, specifically texting or using a phone while driving (which is illegal in California), by joining the California Office of Traffic Safety’s “Go Safely” Distracted Driving Campaign efforts. We are asking California high school students to take part in our PSA Challenge and use your creativity or storytelling skills to make your own Public Service Announcement (PSA). Teen driver crashes are the leading cause of death for young people nationwide.

We want you to take the creative liberty to address what YOU think motivates young adults to drive safer and without distractions. What kind of message do YOU think would work to make a difference to eliminate distracted driving? Tell us your story!

Why

To save lives by preventing distracted driving related incidents.

Audience

Young drivers between the ages of 14-20.

How to Submit

The contests begin April 12, 2019 at 12:00:01a.m. PST and end on May 20, 2019 at 11:59:59 PST. Submit your entry at GoSafelyCA.org. We will not accept late entries. Participants must be registered California high school students between the ages of 14-20 years old to enter.

Winners will be chosen based on criteria provided in the Contest Guidelines & Info and announced on GoSafelyCa.org on May 31, 2019. Participants are encouraged to share a link to their entries on social media and encourage voting. A panel of judges will award First Place, Second Place and Honorable Mention prizes. The Top Vote Getter prize will be awarded based on the most votes garnered throughout the competition.

All videos and artwork will become property of the California Office of Traffic Safety. This gives us an opportunity to use your content to promote safe driving to a broader audience and draw attention to this important topic. We may also share your content on GoSafelyCA.org, OTS.ca.gov, social media or other digital platform (whether or not you’re selected as a winner).
